RETURN: AN INVITATION
When I first began training in the martial arts, I did not walk into the nearest Karate or Taekwondo studio + sign up for classes. Instead, I took the time to research options + identify the best fit based on my intentions at the time.
I found my way to a man in Oberlin, OH who trained in advanced forms most people have never heard of. He didn’t own a training studio, and he wasn’t accepting any students (after all, he already had two).
Still, he invited me to join them for a session (in a large, empty field behind the Sheriff’s office). Ultimately, he recognized my commitment + agreed to take me on as his third student.

This happened again years later, when I sought to learn a different form. And then it happened again. And then again. Every time I chose to pursue training, I sought the very best, and then I “earned” my way into a private group.
Never once were any of these teachers available to the mainstream. Never once were they easy to locate. Never once were they hungry for more students. Never once did they agree to work with me until we’d met in person.
In every case, the teacher was a student, just like us. In fact, this more than any other factor is what qualified him as a master-teacher. In every case, we functioned as a group of partners, allies, “teammates,” peers.
The smaller group allowed for focused + accelerated learning; also depth. Each of us supported every other.
There was honor + sincerity: respect. Collective dedication. Heartfelt kinship.
THE CONCEPT
For a very long time, I’ve been imagining a space like that within which a select group could assemble to discuss + integrate life’s deepest lessons. It has been so clear to me that all the information I have shared means very little on its own; it calls to be made use of.
And so I’ve been imagining a space, and who might fill it. I’ve dreamt of meeting regularly, just like I have always done for training. I’ve come to understand that, in this space, the Student in me is the Teacher others may be seeking even now.
I’ve imagined how a small group of participants could accelerate the process of true growth: each life + question serving every other. I’ve known the time would come to make this real.
In fact, to be completely honest: recent months have been relentless with awareness of this birth; the air of every day thick with the question: Is it time?
The answer landed Thursday with a thud: The time is NOW.
AN INVITATION
And so, it is with pride that I announce RETURN: a first-time-ever membership for a group of ready students, partners, kin.
This is the most intimate + valuable experience that I have ever been led to create.
