FACING YOUR FEAR DOESN’T MAKE YOU LESS FEARFUL, ONLY A LITTLE BIT STRONGER
JANUARY 22, 2013
you lay down
in the middle of your room
right ear pressed
to the carpeted floor
left ear catching
the faint sound of heat pushing
hissing through vents
as you think about how
two days from now
all this will be
just another memory
and it will be a new floor
new sounds
a new view altogether.
you close your eyes
until the muffled sound
of movement
& voices
rises through the floorboards
then you peel yourself
up off the floor
bones creaking and protesting
head just a little dizzy
and try not to think
about that one
broken-record thought you
left with
the imprint in the carpet:
leaving all this is terrifying.
but you
don’t let it stop you.
