THE FEAR OF SURVIVAL

The fear of survival is a predictable collective pattern. It is primal + in many ways outdated. This ancient fear assumes that life is fragile + at risk. It assumes that forces of this world aggress + limit our potential, that to live is to compete against the odds.

This fear keeps us small + lonely in a world of constant threat. It has tendrils that impact our sense of possibility, our sense of self, and our beliefs. Ultimately, it affects how we behave + keeps us busy minimizing risk.

Because of this one fear, we learn to minimize the value of our very best ideas, silence inspiration, and eventually compromise the very life we have intended to protect.

This fear of survival is a limiting factor in our lives because of the whole complex of assumptions that sustain it. But what if those assumptions were dead false?

What if we are victims of our own misunderstanding? What if Life is generous + kind? What if we are here not to compete, but to collaborate + grow?

How do we consider this alternative? How do we release a fear so deep?

In reality, we may not be able to “release” such fear at all. Fear like this cannot be “let go” of - it must be faced. We face the fact of fear when we diffuse it in the light of Greater Truth.

First we must consider that what we have always wished for might be true: that the Universe is active, fair, and gracious; that is has our backs; that we are safe.

We must come to understand that Life supports the full outpouring of our spirit, and rewards it: that our natural expression leads to growth.

We must recognize the evidence of plenty in the prototype of Nature, and include ourselves as members of its flow.

We must learn to sense a Greater Presence in the space around us + within us: unavoidable + evident + true.

We must learn to act on Truth in spite of fear.

It isn’t often possible to “let go” of fear. It is, however, possible to face it + replace it; to enact the conscious light of greater truth.

First we need to see + understand that greater truth. Then we need to act on what we’ve seen.

This requires honesty + courage, also heart. At first it may seem a little “crazy.” And yet…

… it’s an absolute necessity of life.
