GIVING ADVICE TO MYSELF FROM OVER THE PHONE WITH A FRIEND
MARCH 16, 2013
i told her everything she needed to know
with words from someplace
unprepared
about how searching
for answers is a fool’s errand since
the best we know is a shot
in the dark
and
how questions of direction leave you
stuck where you are
so it’s better
instead
to
just move
sometimes because
when you know you must go
where you go doesn’t matter
so much as the fact that
you went
since
direction can always be changed
but stagnation will eat
you alive.
and i know what it is
to want a glimpse of the end
from the start
but
know better now
that the end isn’t visible from any
point (not even the end)
since
even the end is a start.
so you do what
you know
that
you need to do
without wearing the weight of what-ifs.
and i thought: oh, i wish this
were recorded
but
the best things in life
can’t be planned
or repeated
they just happen, and then they are gone
and you move from where you
were to where you
are and
then you move again from there.
