AN HONEST EVALUATION ON THE THEME OF FIRM DECISIONS

MARCH 16, 2013

do you think you’ll ever go back to church? he asked
no, i don’t, was my immediate response, but
the more i thought the less I knew
until

sometimes you move one way and there’s no going
back, ever. and sometimes you move one
way, and there is. too many things
change

too quickly to ever know anything for sure, so you
relinquish automatic though begrudging
response, then cross your fingers
and

watch, because no one no one no one ever knows:
when life pitches a curve, your best bet is
to swing and swing hard from
your

spot on the couch or an office chair, standing before
a humming machine or laying in bed (the
alarm screeching: WAKE!), the
mirror

the sidewalk, the kitchen, the computer, the mail. from
wherever it comes and wherever you are
you’ll be somewhere else when it’s
done

so you never say no, or at least only rarely, with
caution, knowing no today might be new
tomorrow with the shape of this
thing

we call life.
