A CHARACTER STUDY OF THE INVISIBLE MAN WHO COULD BE SEEN BUT NO ONE SAW
MARCH 16, 2013
there it was // on a bench // at the roadside // a ragged bundle // of clothes // in the shape // of a body // one tattered jacket // or maybe shirt // draped over // what should have been // a head // hung // low as the sky // spit droplets // whisked // by wind // and speeding traffic // hissing // past the lifeless figure // hunched against // the world, against // the furious world.
imagine: a bus // pulling to a stop // unfolding its doors // waiting.
still // the figure, sleeping // never shudders // never moves.
the bus // lurches forward // as drivers behind // accelerate // speeding hissing splashing past // showering tattered clothing // wet // rushing // to dinners // to dates // to relaxation // to war and windows and // contemplation while // the bundle, weary // waits // just hoping // to survive the // night approaching // faster than // breath // or luck // or even a simple name.
